Seville: United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has called on world leaders to increase financial assistance to developing countries, warning that without stronger support, achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will be extremely difficult.
The SDGs are a set of 17 global goals created to improve life for people and protect the planet by 2030. These goals include ending poverty, providing clean water, improving education, and fighting climate change.
Currently, there is a huge gap of $4 trillion in funding needed to achieve these goals in developing nations. Guterres said this is a serious problem, and rich countries need to step up and provide the money needed.

He spoke about this at a major UN event, saying that many developing countries are still struggling after the COVID-19 pandemic and facing rising debt and climate disasters. Without urgent support, millions of people could be left behind.
Guterres called for fairer financial systems and easier access to funding for poorer countries. He said the time to act is now.
