GENEVA: WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced today that nine trucks loaded with essential medical supplies, including 2,000 units of blood and 1,500 units of plasma, successfully crossed into the Palestinian Strip via the Kerem Shalom crossing.

This marks the first WHO medical delivery in over three months, following a near-total blockade that had left Gaza’s health system on the brink of collapse. The situation remains dire, with only 17 of the enclave’s 36 hospitals minimally or partially functioning, according to WHO’s update last week.

Israel began permitting limited aid deliveries at the end of May after a blockade that lasted more than two months. However, the flow of aid remains slow and volatile, with distribution efforts hampered by chaotic scenes and repeated reports of Israeli forces opening fire on Palestinians waiting for food and supplies.
