MUSCAT : According to data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), the personal goods and miscellaneous services group topped the list, recording a sharp 6.4 percent increase, followed by the transportation group, which increased by 2.4 percent, and the restaurants and hotels group, which rose by 1.4 percent.
The data showed that health group prices rose by 0.8 percent, clothing and footwear by 0.6 percent, culture and entertainment by 0.3 percent, and education by a slight by 0.1 percent.
In contrast, prices of the food and non-alcoholic beverages group decreased by 0.8 percent; the furniture, household equipment, and maintenance group decreased by 0.2 percent. Meanwhile, prices for housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels, communications, and tobacco remained stable.
In the food and non-alcoholic beverages group, the prices of the sugar, jam, honey, and sweets group witnessed a 3.7 percent, while the prices of the unclassified food products group recorded a 3.6 percent increase. in May, in comparison to the same period last year.
Prices in the milk, cheese, and eggs group rose by 1.9 percent; oils and fats group recorded a 1.8 percent increase; and the meat group rose by 0.2 percent.
However, vegetable prices fell by 8.6 percent, followed by fish and seafood by 2.3 percent. Fruit prices also fell by 1.6 percent, while non-alcoholic beverages recorded a slight decline of 0.1 percent. Bread and cereals remained unchanged.
The data showed that Al Dakhiliyah Governorate recorded the highest inflation rate among the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman by the end of May 2025, compared to the same period of the previous year, with an inflation rate of 1.5 percent.
Musandam Governorate came in second place with a rate of 1.1 percent, followed by South Al Sharqiyah Governorate with 1.0 percent, Al Dhahirah Governorate with 0.9 percent, Muscat Governorate with 0.8 percent, Al Wusta Governorate with 0.6 percent, Al Buraimi Governorate with 0.4 percent, Dhofar Governorate with 0.3 percent, and North Al Batinah Governorate with a rate of 0.2 percent.
In contrast, South Al Batinah and North Al Sharqiyah governorates witnessed a decline in inflation levels, by rates of 0.4 percent and 0.1 percent, respectively.
