Muscat: The condemnation comes in the wake of the announcement from U.S. President Donald Trump on strikes targeting three nuclear sites inside Iran – Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan – claiming they were ‘completely destroyed’ by the attacks.

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director-General Rafael Grossi called a special meeting of the agency today following the US attacks, stating, “In light of the urgent situation in Iran, I am calling for an emergency meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors tomorrow.”

Earlier today, the IAEA also issued a statement that no increase in radiation levels outside Iranian nuclear sites had been recorded as a result of the US attacks.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed his grave concern over the use of force by the United States against Iran, calling on member states to de-escalate and comply with their obligations under the UN Charter and other international laws. The UN Secretary-General said: “At this critical moment, it is crucial to avoid a spiral of chaos. There is no military solution. Diplomacy is the only way forward. The only hope is peace.”

The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassim Al-Budaiwi, said that the direct US targeting of Iranian nuclear facilities in the region will increase tensions and impact regional security and stability. He stated that the GCC affirms the contents of the statement issued by the 48th extraordinary ministerial meeting of its Ministerial Council, held last Monday, regarding developments in the region, which condemned everything that could threaten the security and stability of the region.

He pointed out that the statement stressed the need for an immediate ceasefire and for all parties to exert joint efforts to calm the situation and adopt a diplomatic approach as an effective way to resolve conflicts.

The United Arab Emirates emphasised prioritizing diplomacy and dialogue to achieve stability, prosperity, and justice, urging the international community to work towards a comprehensive solution. The State of Qatar expressed regret over the situation’s deterioration, stressing the need to halt all military operations and immediately return to dialogue.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia called for redoubled international efforts to reach a political solution and open a new chapter of security and stability. The State of Kuwait is also following the developments with “great concern,” particularly the targeting of nuclear facilities, deeming it a “dangerous development.”

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas called for “avoiding further escalation” following the US strikes. “All parties must take a step back, return to the negotiating table, and avoid further escalation,” she added.

France expressed concern following the US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, calling on “all parties to exercise restraint to avoid any escalation that could lead to an escalation of the conflict.” The French Foreign Ministry expressed its “conviction that a lasting settlement to this issue lies through negotiations within the framework of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty,” noting that it “did not participate in these strikes or in their planning.”

For its part, Russia called for creating conditions for a return to the political and diplomatic track, according to a statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry regarding the US strikes on Iranian territory. The Russian Foreign Ministry said: “We call for an end to the attack and intensified efforts to create conditions for a return to the political and diplomatic track.” It added: “Russia strongly condemns the US strikes on a number of nuclear facilities in Iran, which followed the Israeli attacks on Iran.”

Egypt also condemned the “accelerating escalation” in Iran, warning of “serious consequences” for regional and global security. In a statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry expressed “grave concern over the recent developments in Iran and condemned the accelerating escalation, which threatens serious consequences for regional and international peace and security.” It warned of “the dangers of the region sliding into further chaos and tension,” stressing that “political solutions and diplomatic negotiations—not a military solution—are the only way out of the crisis.”

Iraq condemned the US strikes, warning that the escalation poses a “serious threat to security and peace in the region and exposes regional stability to grave risks.”
