KUWAIT: During their conversation, both leaders warned of the severe regional and global repercussions that could arise from continued military escalation, urging restraint and dialogue. China’s Xinhua News Agency reported that President Xi emphasized the urgent need to “cease firing and stop the fighting,” adding that the use of military force only deepens divisions and prolongs suffering.

Xi stated that the continued escalation would lead to greater losses on both sides and further harm countries across the region. He firmly rejected the indiscriminate use of force and reiterated the importance of respecting international law, protecting civilians, and facilitating the safe withdrawal of foreign nationals.

Calling on the international community — particularly influential powers — to prevent the conflict from spreading, Xi affirmed that China stands ready to coordinate with all stakeholders in pursuit of justice and lasting peace. He also highlighted the need for a political resolution to the Iranian nuclear issue.

Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov confirmed that the two leaders were fully aligned in their views, stating that their position is grounded in the principles of the UN Charter. Ushakov added that Putin offered Russia’s support as a potential mediator in the region, an initiative welcomed by the Chinese side.

Xi also praised Russia’s earlier mediation efforts involving Iran and Israel, noting that such steps are critical to de-escalating tensions. Both leaders agreed to intensify coordination and intelligence sharing through their respective agencies in the coming days to address the rapidly evolving crisis.

The two presidents are set to meet in person in China in early September to continue their consultations and expand their cooperative efforts aimed at restoring peace in the Middle East.
