MUSCAT – This new directive stipulates that every current and prospective engineer must apply to the Oman Society of Engineers to secure a professional classification certificate.

The Ministry confirmed that work permits will be issued or renewed only upon the submission of a professional accreditation certificate issued by the Sectoral Skills Unit for Engineering. The Ministry also stressed that no permits will be granted after the specified date without fulfilling this requirement.

“The Ministry of Labour announces to all establishments and engineers working in the Sultanate of Oman that, starting from August 1, 2025, engineering professional accreditation will be required to obtain or renew work permits for all engineers working in the Sultanate of Oman. Therefore, every current or future engineer must apply to the Oman Society of Engineers to obtain a professional classification certificate. The issuance of work permits from the Ministry of Labor is linked to the submission of a professional accreditation certificate issued by the Sectoral Skills Unit for Engineering. Please note that permits will not be granted after the above-mentioned date unless this certificate is submitted,” states the Ministry announcement.
