Muscat: Oman’s telecommunications sector is seeing strong momentum as the country embraces digital transformation, according to new data from the National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The most dramatic growth came in the Internet of Things (IoT) segment, which skyrocketed by 121 percent, reaching 1,552,577 subscriptions. This surge aligns with Oman’s push toward smart city infrastructure, digital logistics, and industrial automation.
Prepaid mobile phone subscriptions dropped by 0.6 percent, settling at 5,280,057, suggesting a slow but steady transition to postpaid plans.

Overall, mobile phone subscriptions in the Sultanate hit 8,068,518, marking a 12.3 percent increase over April 2024. Meanwhile, mobile broadband internet subscriptions reached 5,376,244.
In the fixed internet segment, broadband subscriptions increased by 2.5 percent to 587,144, with fiber optic subscriptions up 11.9 percent, totaling 337,138. Fixed 5G subscriptions also posted modest growth of 2.6 percent to 215,217, while fixed 4G subscriptions plunged 36.9 percent to just 21,103.
Traditional services are on the decline, with ADSL subscriptions falling by 52.6 percent to 12,536, and satellite internet subscriptions down 44.8 percent to just 368. Fixed telephone lines also saw a 0.6 percent dip, ending April 2025 at 439,662.
