AHMEDABAD : The ill-fated Air India aircraft had just taken off from Ahmedabad airport when it plummeted into a densely populated residential zone, leaving a trail of destruction and raising fears of a significant loss of life.
President Droupadi Murmu conveyed her grief, describing the crash as a “heart-rending disaster.” She said, “I am deeply distressed to learn about the tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad. My thoughts and prayers are with the affected people. The nation stands with them in this hour of indescribable grief.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi echoed the nation’s anguish, calling the incident “heartbreaking beyond words.” He assured the public that he is in constant touch with ministers and emergency teams, stating, “My thoughts are with everyone affected by it. Have been in touch with Ministers and authorities who are working to assist those affected.”

The tragedy, which involved a flight carrying 53 British nationals, has also drawn international attention. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the images emerging from the crash site “devastating” and added, “I am being kept updated as the situation develops, and my thoughts are with the passengers and their families at this deeply distressing time.”
Emergency services, including fire and rescue teams, rushed to the crash site to carry out rescue and relief operations. The Ahmedabad airport has been temporarily closed, and authorities have set up a help desk and emergency contact center to assist relatives of passengers.
