BEIJING: The announcement came from China’s Foreign Ministry after an informal meeting held on Wednesday evening between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, and Afghan Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi.

The statement said that China welcomed this progress and expressed its willingness to continue supporting the improvement of relations between the two neighboring countries.

The meeting also explored ways to strengthen the trilateral cooperation mechanism, enhance political trust, and deepen joint projects under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). A key highlight was the discussion to connect Afghanistan with the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor—an ambitious infrastructure and trade route under the BRI umbrella.

Leaders also addressed strategies for rebuilding Afghanistan’s economy, expanding trade, and confronting shared security concerns, including terrorism. The trio underscored their unified stance against foreign interference in regional matters.

As part of the growing diplomatic engagement, the ministers agreed to convene the sixth round of the trilateral dialogue soon in Kabul.
