Muscat – The court also ordered the termination of a sales contract with a consumer following a complaint investigated by the Consumer Protection Department in Barka.
The case originated from a complaint lodged with the Consumer Protection Department in Barka by a consumer who had entered into a contract to purchase a used 2022 model vehicle for RO 14,450. Delivery was scheduled for January 25, 2025. However, the establishment failed to deliver the agreed-upon vehicle on time and later provided a different car with multiple defects.
Following an investigation, the case was referred to the Public Prosecution and subsequently to the competent court. The court found three defendants guilty of two misdemeanours: failure to provide the service properly and failure to disclose the actual condition of the vehicle in the contract or invoice.
Each defendant was fined RO 1,000 – RO 500 for each misdemeanour – totalling RO 3,000. The court also ordered the termination of the contract, the return of the full purchase amount (RO 14,450), compensation of RO 500 to the consumer, coverage of legal expenses, and the recovery of the defective vehicle.
The Consumer Protection Authority affirms its ongoing commitment to taking all legal measures to protect consumer rights, calling on all commercial establishments to comply with the applicable laws and regulations.
