RIYADH: The US president Donald Trump on Tuesday announced that he will remove the longstanding US sanctions against Syria, imposed during former President Bashar Al Assad’s rule.
“There’s a new government that will hopefully succeed in stabilising the country and keeping peace,” he said.
“I will be ordering the cessation of sanctions against Syria in order to give them a chance at greatness,” Trump said, with MBS (Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman) and the rest of the room rising to their feet to applaud the decision.
