Muscat – The Directorate General of Agriculture in North Al Batinah has bolstered its efforts to support beekeepers and promote the honey industry by organising marketing exhibitions aimed at opening new outlets for beekeepers, and encouraging them to improve their marketing operations.

According to Eng. Saeed bin Mohammed Al Adawi, Director of the Agricultural Development Department at the Directorate, the number of beekeepers registered in North Al Batinah Governorate amounted to 1,018 beekeepers – owning approximately 28,097 beehives – by the end of last year. He explained that the quantities of honey production vary from one season to another depending on the improvement of weather conditions and rainfall, which results in an abundance of vegetation and wild trees and an increase in the quality and quantity of honey production.

It’s worth noting that beekeeping is a major source of income for many beekeepers in the North Al Batinah Governorate. It contributes to supporting the national economy by meeting the local market’s need for local honey and exporting the surplus abroad.
