Muscat – The case, according to the Consumer Protection Authority’s (CPA) department in Barka, involved the illegal production and sale of coloured liquid falsely labelled as ‘engine coolant’ and ‘anti-corrosion fluid’. The products were packaged in plastic containers of various sizes and stamped with fake expiration dates to appear ready for sale.
The Department took the necessary legal actions by referring the violators to the Public Prosecution, which conducted an investigation and referred the case to the competent court. The court found six defendants guilty of trading in products that failed to meet health and safety standards, operating without a valid license, and distributing counterfeit goods.
The court imposed a fine of RO 100 for the first offense and RO 2,000 for the second offense on each defendant. Of the second fine, RO 500 will be enforced, while the remaining amount is suspended. The penalties were merged for enforcement purposes.
The court also ruled for the permanent deportation from Oman of defendants numbered two through five, effective upon the completion of their sentences. Additionally, the court ordered the confiscation of the seized items used in the offense and the closure of the commercial activity.
The Consumer Protection Authority urges all commercial establishments to comply with the law and avoid illegal practices. The Authority affirms its continued commitment to take all necessary measures to protect consumers’ rights.
