NEW YORK: Represented by the National Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information, Oman is actively contributing to discussions that emphasize the cultural, historical, and identity-related significance of geographical names. The session also explores the global efforts to standardize place name spellings and the importance of modern tools—like artificial intelligence and geospatial technologies—in managing geographical nomenclature.

Oman presented a comprehensive national report detailing its achievements and initiatives in the field of geographical names between 2023 and 2025. The Sultanate also submitted a working paper and delivered a visual presentation showcasing the role of the Unified Arab System in transliterating geographical names from Arabic to Latin, highlighting regional cooperation in preserving linguistic integrity.

In addition to the main discussions, Oman took part in a side meeting organized by the Arab Division of Geographical Names Experts.
