MUSCAT: There are plenty of food supplies stockpiled in Oman to meet the needs of people in the wake of a deep tropical depression that is expected to make landfall on Friday evening, a top official at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) said.

Due to the tropical depression, heavy rain and thundershowers are expected from Friday evening to Sunday evening with its peak on Saturday and it is expected to affect the governorates of Muscat, South al Sharqiya, North al Sharqiya, Al Dakhliah, South al Batinah, North al Batinah, Al Dhahirah, and Al Buraimi.

Mubarak bin Muhammad Al Dohani, Director General of the General Directorate of MOCI, said that measures have been taken to avoid any shortage of food and fuel.

“There is direct coordination with the commercial centers to provide foodstuffs and consumer goods in all governorates of the Sultanate, as well as coordination with oil product marketing companies to provide petroleum products at fuel filling stations and prepare for any shortages,” Al Dohani added.
