Abu Dhabi: A move aligned with the Emirate’s ambitious goal of making 25% of all trips driverless by 2040.

The expansion, announced by the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) under Abu Dhabi Mobility, connects Yas and Saadiyat Islands to the newly renamed Zayed International Airport, marking a significant milestone in the city’s smart transport strategy. The TXAI service has already logged over 30,000 trips and covered more than 430,000 kilometres since its pilot launch in 2021 — all without a single traffic incident.

Equipped with advanced AI systems, the autonomous taxis are available via a dedicated app, allowing passengers to book rides, track vehicles in real-time, and enjoy a seamless experience. Each vehicle currently includes a safety operator onboard, with full driverless operations planned as infrastructure and regulatory conditions mature.

Abu Dhabi Mobility’s roadmap also highlights environmental and safety benefits: autonomous transport is projected to reduce carbon emissions by 15% and traffic accidents by 18% by 2040. The initiative plays a central role in Abu Dhabi’s vision of an AI-powered, eco-conscious, and connected transport ecosystem.

Alongside physical deployment, the Emirate has rolled out a comprehensive regulatory framework and public awareness campaigns to boost confidence and adoption. Abu Dhabi continues to collaborate with global partners to refine its systems, aiming to position itself as a global leader in autonomous mobility.
