MUSCAT: The Oman Embassy in Bangkok on Friday confirmed that no Omani citizens were injured after a powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake hit central Myanmar, with tremors felt across Thailand.

In a statement issued, the embassy said that its officials are closely following the developments of the situation and the statements of the concerned Thai authorities. The embassy also urged Omani citizens to “exercise caution and adhere to the instructions of local authorities, and communicate with the embassy’s emergency number: +66 638871775 in case of need for any assistance or inquiry.”

One person was killed and 50 others were injured after a high-rise building collapsed in Bangkok’s capital following the quake, according to Thai authorities. Myanmar was hit by a strong aftershock of 6.4 magnitude around 12 minutes after the initial quake, according to United States Geological Survey.
