MUSCAT : Numbeo’s index, which assessed 146 countries, ranked Oman 5th with a safety index score of 81.7 out of 100. This places Oman behind only Andorra (84.7), the United Arab Emirates (84.5), Qatar (84.2), and Taiwan (82.9).

The index indicates that Oman enjoys a ‘very low’ crime rate, with residents expressing minimal concerns about home burglaries, theft, robbery, and vehicle-related crimes.

The report also noted that walking alone during daylight in Oman is considered very safe, with a high safety rating even for walking alone at night. Oman’s overall crime levels are regarded as very low, with citizens and visitors expressing confidence in their personal security.

The index evaluates various factors such as homicide rates, muggings, robberies, and other forms of violence, while also measuring the public’s perception of safety during both day and night. According to Numbeo, safety scores are derived from user-submitted surveys that reflect how safe residents and visitors feel, as well as crime statistics.

Among the top five nations in the safety rankings, Oman is joined by other Middle Eastern and East Asian countries, including Qatar, UAE, and Taiwan. The Isle of Man also placed high, securing sixth position.

Andorra, a small principality nestled in the Pyrenees between France and Spain, claimed the top spot with a perfect safety score of 84.7. Known for its tourism-focused economy, low crime rate, and high life expectancy, Andorra’s ranking as the world’s safest nation is supported by its strong community and stringent safety measures.

The Numbeo Safety Index provides a comprehensive view of crime levels in each country, with crime indices below 20 rated as ‘very low,’ between 20 and 40 as ‘low,’ and levels above 60 categorized as ‘high.’ The safety index is an essential tool for those looking to understand the relative safety of various countries and cities, helping people make informed decisions when traveling or relocating.
