Muscat – One of the points of discussion during the session was a concern raised by a Shura representative regarding the attire of tourists, which he claimed offends the Omani character. The representative emphasised the importance of ensuring that tourists respect the cultural norms of Oman, particularly when it comes to dressing modestly.
In response, the Minister acknowledged the concern and emphasised that tourism companies play a significant role in addressing this issue. He assured the Council that efforts would be made to intensify awareness regarding the importance of modest clothing for visitors.
“The responsibility for ensuring tourists adhere to the appropriate dress code lies with travel and tourism agencies,” stated His Excellency Al Mahrouqi, assuring Council members that the ministry would be intensifying awareness-raising efforts to make sure that tourists are informed about the need to respect local customs and cultural norms regarding modest dress.
