Muscat – The gold medal was won by Hussam bin Nasser Al Amri in the 333m short track speed skating event and silver in the 222m race. Al Baraa bin Malik Al Battashi won a silver in cross-country race (100 meters). The bronze medals were won by Retaj bint Sultan Al Salmiya (two medals in speed skating 200 meters and 100 meters), Al Baraa bin Malik Al Battashi in cross-country skating, and Amira bint Abdulaziz Al Raisi in snow running (100 meters).

Dr. Amal bint Talib Al Qatitiyah, member of the Board of Directors of the Special Olympics Oman and head of the mission, said: “These results reflect the efforts made by the coaches with the players and the support of the Special Olympics Oman to make this participation a success. They have contributed to introducing a large segment of followers to the efforts made by the Special Olympics Oman to place the name of the Sultanate of Oman in international forums.”

For his part, Kamil bin Hassan Al Lawati, head coach for all sports at Special Olympics Oman, said: “We are proud that our players have won these medals. These games require a lot of special training, focus, and encouragement to overcome various challenges and positively develop the personalities of people with intellectual disabilities.”

It’s worth noting that the current edition of the World Winter Games featured eight Olympic winter sports, with 1,500 male and female athletes with intellectual disabilities from 102 countries taking part.
