Muscat: A group of expatriates from Mahe have launched ‘Mahe United’, a club that will represent their hometown at the upcoming Tely-Mahe Cup Football Tournament on March 13 and 14 at the Ashadi Football Field in Mabeala, near the Mall of Muscat.
The initiative highlights the deep-rooted ties between the two towns, which, despite being governed separately before India’s independence, have shared traditions, cuisine, and family connections for generations. Even among expats in Gulf countries, the connection remains strong, with clubs and cultural gatherings keeping their heritage alive.
The launch of Mahe United’s logo and jerseys was led by community veterans Mr. Abdul Rahim, Ashraf, Anwer, Firos, Iqbal, and Shanawas, who emphasized the club’s mission to unite all Mahe expatriates under one platform, supporting cultural and sporting activities without bias.

Organizers stressed that sports play a crucial role in fostering teamwork, steering young minds away from social issues, and strengthening community bonds. The Tely-Mahe Cup will see expats from both towns compete in late-night matches starting at 9 PM and running until 2 AM on both days.
With generations of Mahe and Thalassery expats calling Oman home for over 40 years, Mahe United is a symbol of enduring unity between these historic twin towns.
