Muscat: Oman’s delegation include six athletes—both male and female—competing in snow running, cross-country skiing, and speed skating alongside a team of six coaches, three administrators, and a doctor.

Mohammed bin Salem Al Rashdi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Oman Special Olympics, highlighted that the selection process for the athletes was rigorous, involving specialized skill tests and intensive training sessions led by expert coaches in winter sports. In preparation, coaches Safwan Al-Balushi and Dalal Ambusaidi completed an advanced training course in Egypt in November 2024, enhancing their expertise in snow running and cross-country skiing.

The Turin 2025 Games will see participation from over 1,500 athletes from 102 countries, competing across eight winter sports, including alpine skiing, dance, figure skating, snowshoeing, and short-track speed skating.

Oman has a proud history at the Special Olympics Winter Games, having secured 10 medals in the 2013 edition in South Korea (four gold, three silver, and three bronze) and another four medals at the 2017 Austria Games (one gold, two silver, and one bronze).
