MUSCAT : Wrapping up four days of intense competition at the Oasis Badminton Academy in Ghala and with over 300 players battling it out across various categories, the event attracted hundreds of spectators, reinforcing the sport’s growing fanbase in Oman.
To encourage wider participation, the tournament featured nine divisions in the Open category, alongside a special category for Omani players, which saw an impressive turnout. Players competed across 35 categories, including singles and doubles for boys, girls, women, and veterans, as well as the Elite Doubles and Mixed Doubles categories, adding an extra layer of excitement.
The tournament, known for its generous prize pool of OMR 6,000, saw winners and runners-up across multiple divisions take home well-earned rewards. The senior categories, including Men’s A, B, and C divisions, Men’s Premier, Women’s Doubles, Veteran Doubles, and Omani Singles, drew high participation, while dedicated competitions for children made the event inclusive for all age groups.

The prestigious award ceremony was attended by key dignitaries, including Dr. Nasser Al Saadi (Chairman, Bosher Municipality), Abdul Rahim Musallam Al Daroushi (Chairman, Oman Racket Sports Committee), and Majid Al Kharousi (CEO, Oman Tower Company). Other notable guests included Saeed Al Khalbani, Naif Al Jazasi, Ila Bhaktal, S. Ramkumar, Narinder Singh, Shalini Verma, Wafa Al Jazasi, Sandeep Koker, Sunil Kumar Gupta, and Rassam Meethal.
Academy Director Yogendra Katiyar expressed his excitement at the overwhelming response, stating: “The second season received even greater acceptance from both locals and expats. The increase in the number of participants proves that badminton is becoming more popular in Oman. This motivates us to organize more tournaments in the future.”
Tournament officials from Morning Star Badminton Club echoed his sentiments, emphasizing that badminton is gaining traction alongside cricket and football in Oman.
“Even with a four-day tournament, we struggled to accommodate all players, so we will work on ensuring even greater participation in the future,” they said.
