MUSCAT : The book titled ‘Mandvi to Muscat: Indian Community and the Shared History of India and Oman’ was officially launched on February 16, 2025, by H.E. Dr. S. Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister of India, and H.E. Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, Foreign Minister of the Sultanate of Oman. The book brought out by the Embassy of India in Muscat, highlights the deep-rooted history of the Indian diaspora in Oman and the centuries-old people-to-people ties that have shaped the bilateral relationship.

The book is the culmination of the eight-month-long lecture series organized by the Embassy of India from October 2023 to May 2024. The series, inaugurated by Shri V. Muraleedharan, then Minister of State for External Affairs of India, in October 2023, focused on revitalizing awareness about the contributions of the Indian community in strengthening India-Oman ties.

Scholars, historians, and anthropologists from India, Oman, US, and UAE contributed to the series, while members of historical Indian families in Oman shared personal family narratives. The book combines both academic perspectives and family histories narrated by members of these families, offering a valuable resource for understanding the cultural and historical contributions of the Indian community to Oman’s society.

The book reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of deeper engagement with the Indian diaspora, recognizing their role in shaping India’s global connections.
