MUSCAT : The Modern College of Business and Science (MCBS) is pleased to announce the launch of its new course, Introduction to Sustainable Development, which began in the Spring semester of the 2025 academic year. This initiative reinforces MCBS’s deep commitment to integrating the principles of environmental, social, and economic sustainability into its academic programs and operations.
Designed for students at OQF Level 6, the course explores critical topics, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), circular economies, and the practical application of sustainable practices within local Omani contexts. Students will actively participate in thought-provoking discussions, analyze real-world case studies, and engage in hands-on, activity-based projects that may include field trips and other exciting initiatives, addressing the specific sustainability challenges facing Oman.
This new course directly supports MCBS’s broader mission to contribute to the realization of Oman Vision 2040 by empowering students to become future sustainability leaders. Through an emphasis on teamwork, problem-solving, and innovation, the course (SOSD 2000) will equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to confidently and creatively address pressing global and local challenges. The course is also part of MCBS’s implementation plan for the National Strategy of Green Universities, issued by the Environment Authority and adopted by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation.

Students will have the opportunity to study at Estidama, MCBS’s state-of-the-art sustainability center, and join the vibrant Sustainable Development Club, where they can collaborate with fellow students to create meaningful change.
The college encourages all future eligible students to enrol in this exciting course and embark on a learning journey that will provide them with the tools and understanding needed to drive meaningful sustainable change in Oman and beyond. By offering such a course, MCBS showcases its dedication to fostering not only academic excellence, but also environmental responsibility and social consciousness.
