Muscat: The event, a key highlight of the “Jrab South Al Batinah” Festival, was held under the patronage of His Excellency Eng. Masoud bin Saeed Al Hashemi, Governor of South Al Batinah.
The ceremony opened with a vibrant display of South Al Batinah’s heritage arts, featuring the Razha and Al Aazi performances. Soon after, the Ardha camels, adorned with elaborate saddles, bridles, silver khazamas, and colorful decorations, took center stage as riders chanted Hambal and Taghrud songs in unison.
The competition saw participation from six wilayats: Barka, Al Musannah, Rustaq, Wadi Al Ma’awil, Nakhal, and Al Awabi. After a spectacular showcase of skill and control, Rustaq claimed first place, followed by Barka in second and Al Musannah in third.

The Ardha race unfolded in pairs, threes, and fours, with riders displaying remarkable command over their camels at high speeds. Adding to the traditional spectacle was the Hashma race, a fundamental Omani camel-racing event where two camels sprint over a short distance. The competition featured an array of purebred Omani camels, especially the distinguished Batiniyat breed, known for its elegant form and lineage.
The Zamta challenge featured four intense rounds:
Round 1: Samha, owned by Hamoud bin Nasser Al-Hasani (Barka), defeated Samha, owned by Hilal bin Mohammed Al-Siyabi (Al Awabi).
Round 2: Al-Khawara, owned by Jassim bin Mohammed Al-Buwaiqi (Al Musannah), outran Mashhoura, owned by Younis bin Mohammed Al-Maliki (Barka).
Round 3: Shabbar, owned by Abdullah bin Saif Al-Harasi (Rustaq), bested Al-Ghazala, owned by Ahmed bin Hamad Al-Rawahy (Wadi Al-Ma’awil).
Round 4: Al-Khawara, owned by Salem bin Rashid Al-Badri (Al Musannah), secured victory over Samha, owned by Fahd bin Hamid Al-Harasi (Nakhal).
The festival concluded with His Excellency Eng. Masoud bin Saeed Al Hashemi honoring the supporting entities, organizing committee, and winners. In recognition of his patronage, His Excellency Sayyid Tariq bin Mahmoud Al Busaidi, Wali of Barka, presented a souvenir gift to the governor.
