Rahalla event set to boost Oman’s tourism with unique cultural and recreational experiences

The Al Jawfa area in the Wilayat of Al Qabil came alive today as the much-anticipated "Rahalla" event was officially announced

Muscat: This vibrant tourism initiative aims to position North Al Sharqiyah Governorate as a premier family-friendly destination by offering diverse recreational experiences while actively involving and supporting the local community.

Jointly organized by the Oman Tourism Development Company (Omran Group), the North Al Sharqiyah Governorate Office, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, and the Public Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development, the event will run from January 6 to February 27, 2025. Taiseer Company will oversee the implementation of the event, which promises a fusion of adventure, culture, and heritage in the stunning Al Jawfa area, renowned for its breathtaking sand dunes that captivate visitors from across Oman and beyond.

His Excellency Mahmoud bin Yahya Al Dhahli, Governor of North Al Sharqiyah, highlighted the event’s significance: “The event comes within the efforts of North Al Sharqiyah Governorate to enhance the tourism sector and support economic and social development, by highlighting the unique cultural and natural components that distinguish the governorate, noting that the event will provide an exceptional experience for visitors, combining entertainment, exploration and learning about the authentic Omani heritage.”

Dr. Hashel bin Obaid Al Mahrouqi, CEO of Omran Group, echoed this sentiment, stating, “The ‘Rahalla’ event embodies our efforts to enhance cooperation with various development partners to provide rich and diverse tourism experiences that celebrate the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the Sultanate of Oman. He pointed out that the event translates the efforts to serve local communities by creating many business opportunities for small and medium enterprises and members of the local community.”

The event will feature various engaging activities, including sand dune skiing, horse and camel riding, and captivating artistic and heritage performances. Visitors can also explore sales outlets showcasing local handicrafts by Omani artisans, creating a platform for cultural exchange and economic growth.

Samia bint Hamad Al Busaidi, Director of the Department of Heritage and Tourism in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate, emphasized the event’s role in boosting the region’s tourism appeal. “The “Rahalla” event represents an exceptional opportunity to stimulate tourism in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate and promote the heritage, natural and tourism components that the region abounds with, noting that the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism seeks through this event to enhance desert adventure tourism, and create added value for the local community by supporting small and medium enterprises and productive families, in addition to raising hotel and tourism occupancy rates in the governorate,” she said.
