MUSCAT : Moroccan runner Rachid Al Morabiti claimed first place in the men’s Himam Trail Run Race category, a 110-kilometer endurance test considered one of the most challenging in the region. Al Morabiti’s time of 15 hours and 54 minutes solidified his reputation as one of the world’s elite trail runners.

Omani runner Saleh bin Ali Al Saidi delivered a stellar performance, securing second place with a time of 16 hours and 22 minutes, showcasing the growing prowess of Omani athletes in extreme racing. Russian runner Navel Shaimukhamitov rounded out the men’s podium with a time of 16 hours and 38 minutes.

In the women’s category, Spanish athlete Maite Mayor dominated, finishing in 17 hours and 40 minutes. Moroccan runner Aziza Al Raji came in second with 21 hours and 33 minutes, followed by Russian competitor Tatiana Fedoseeva at 23 hours and 7 minutes.

The race kicked off in Al Hamra, winding through lush orchards and Misfat Al Abriyeen village, ascending to the Al Alamein balcony, and traversing Al Jabal Al Akhdar’s rugged mountain paths before concluding at Birkat Al Mouz. Participants endured grueling terrain over a 32-hour limit, highlighting both physical endurance and mental fortitude.

Organized by Al Dakhiliyah Governorate in collaboration with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism and the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth, the event showcased Oman’s natural splendor and rich heritage. The initiative aims to boost sports tourism, promote the local economy, and spotlight the breathtaking Al Hajar Mountains.

The race continues next Friday with a 55-kilometer challenge starting from the Imti archaeological district in Izki, culminating once again in Birkat Al Mouz.
