MUSCAT : The project, which is part of ongoing efforts to uncover Oman’s historical treasures, is being conducted by a team of experts and researchers specialising in marine archaeology.
Their primary objective is to discover, survey, and document the submerged remains of the ancient port of Qalhat, a site that was crucial to trade and economic activities from the 11th to the 16th centuries.
Qalhat, once a bustling port city, is believed to have played a significant role in the maritime trade routes connecting Oman with other parts of the Arabian Peninsula, the Indian subcontinent, and beyond.
