MUSCAT : Mouse motion simulators, also known as “mouse jigglers” are devices, designed to keep computers active by mimicking mouse movements, may carry hidden malware capable of compromising personal and corporate data.

Once a harmless gadget for remote workers to keep their status indicators “online,” these simulators can become a conduit for cyberattacks, particularly when sourced from unknown vendors. According to Kaspersky, such devices, which plug into USB ports, represent a growing risk vector. Globally, the firm’s cybersecurity solutions blocked 3 billion local threats in 2024, including malware transferred via USB drives. In Oman alone, 13.7% of users encountered local cyber threats between July and September this year.

Kaspersky’s experts emphasize the importance of vigilance, especially for businesses and individuals navigating the digital workplace. They urge organizations to enhance digital literacy through employee training and recommend individuals invest in reliable security solutions to detect and block malware from USB-connected devices.
