Oman to host international artists at ‘Raneen’ contemporary art festival in Muttrah

The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth has announced the participation of 20 artists in the inaugural ‘Raneen’ contemporary art festival, set to take place in Muttrah, from November 21 to 30.

MUSCAT : The ten-day event will showcase the vibrant fusion of visual and audio arts, featuring a diverse lineup of local and international talent across three prominent venues in Muttrah.

A total of 20 artists from around the world will participate in the festival, with 13 local artists, 7 international artists, and 8 solo musicians. The event promises a unique blend of exhibitions, installations, and performances that will celebrate both the contemporary and traditional aspects of Oman’s rich cultural heritage.

According to H.E. Sayyid Saeed al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth, the events in Muttrah will include important contemporary art exhibitions and artists’ workshops.

The ‘Raneen’ festival aims to offer a contemporary interpretation of Oman’s architectural heritage, showcasing the unique characteristics of Muttrah and its significance in Omani history. Through this event, the Ministry hopes to breathe new life into historical sites in Muttrah, revitalizing them through a dynamic blend of visual and audio art.

The participating local artists include Ammar Al Kiyumi, Bashair al Balushi, Haitham al Busafi, Huria al Harrasi, Israa Mahmood al Balushi, Khadija al Maamari, Marwa al Bahrani, Mahmood al Zadjali, Makan Studio, Radhika Khimji, Ruqaiya Mazar, HH Sayyida Tania al Said and Tariq al Hajri. The list of artists includes Azra Akšamija (Austria-United States), Clive Gracey (UK-Oman), Elina Brotherus (Finland), John Rea (UK), Laurenz Theinert (Germany), Luke Jerram (UK), Moath alofi (Saudi Arabia), and Seif Kousmate (Morocco).

The festival’s blend of contemporary art, cultural exhibitions, and live performances aims to highlight the intersection of modernity and tradition in Oman, making it a major cultural event for both local audiences and international visitors. The ‘Raneen’ festival is set to become a significant addition to the cultural calendar of Oman, providing a platform for artists to express their vision while revitalizing Muttrah’s historical significance through the arts.
