Muscat: In its commitment to advancing environmental sustainability and protecting Oman’s natural landscape, the Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC) celebrated Omani Tree Day with a community campaign held at the Sultan Scout Camp in Al-Mussanah. Organized in collaboration with the Oman Scouts and Guides and the Environment Authority, the initiative aimed to expand green spaces, elevate environmental awareness, strengthen environmental and social sustainability, and promote a culture of volunteering within the community.

The campaign featured the planting of 100 indigenous trees, a workshop on environmental sustainability, and an exhibition showcasing Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). It brought together OETC employees, local organizations, and community members, fostering a shared commitment to environmental stewardship. The event is part of OETC’s ongoing initiatives in partnership with key government and community institutions to enhance environmental awareness and motivate community-led environmental action.

Mr. Fahad Nasser Al-Kiyumi, General Manager of Quality, Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (QHSSE) at OETC, emphasized the company’s dedication to embedding environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles within its operations.

He stated: “Environmental protection is a priority in our strategic plans and projects. As a company managing large-scale projects with significant impact, we are committed to implementing eco-friendly practices and reducing environmental risks. Through our efforts, we aim to raise environmental awareness and advance sustainability goals across Oman. This campaign underscores OETC’s mission to incorporate sustainability within its organizational goals, supported by comprehensive policies and procedures that align all operational plans with its ESG objectives”.

It is worth mentioning that OETC, a member of Nama Group, is the only company responsible for the transmission and control of electricity across the Sultanate’s network. The electricity is transmitted from production stations to distributed load centers in the governorates. The transmission network operates at a voltage of 132kV and above to cover most of the governorates in the Sultanate, whether in the north or the south. Furthermore, OETC manages the interconnection lines between Oman and the GCC interconnection network, which operates at a voltage of 220kV.
