Keralites in Oman, do you know how well your parliamentarian performed during the last five years? Do you know what was their attendance percentage and their participation in debates?
We at The Arabian Stories have done an analysis based on data uploaded by PRS, a think tank in India, which tracks the performance record of Indian parliament members.
And we have found that out of the 20 MPs, eight didn’t even present a single Private Member Bill during the last five years.

A Private Member Bill is introduced by any other member than a minister. A private member bill can be introduced by both ruling party and opposition MPs.
The Kerala MPs who failed to present even a single Private Member Bill in the 16th Lok Sabha are PK Sreemathi, PK Kunhalikutty, MB Rajesh, PK Biju, CN Jayadevan, Innocent VT, KV Thomas and KC Venugopal.
Interestingly, Dr Shashi Tharoor had presented 16 Private Member’s Bill topping the list.
While the national average on presenting Private Member’s Bill is 2.3 per cent and the state average is 7 per cent.
When the data on questions raised by Kerala parliamentarians were analysed, we found that Anto Antony from Indian National Congress tops the list by raising 657 questions in the 16th Lok Sabha and Mullappally Ramachandran from the same party came second in the list by raising 645 questions.
The national average and state average in raising questions are 292 and 422 respectively.
And when data of debates are analysed, PK Biju from CPM participated in 326 debates topping the list and NK Premachandran belonging to Congress-led United Democratic Front came second by participating in 300 debates.
CPM supporter Innocent and KV Thomas from Congress were the both parliamentarians who could participate only in 42 debates and came last in the list.
Interestingly, national and state average in debate participation is 67.1 per cent and 142.5 per cent respectively.
In the attendance front, Mullappally Ramachandran from the Congress has 92 percent of attendance, while PK Biju from CPM came second with 89 percent.
Two parliament seat, Wayanad and Kottayam are currently remaining vacant.
