MUSCAT : The Ministerial Resolution No. 216/2024 prohibits the import of specific types of molluscs from Northland Province in New Zealand. This decision is based on the Veterinary Quarantine Law, issued by Royal Decree No. 45/2004, and follows recommendations from the competent veterinary authority.
The ban covers molluscs, their products, derivatives, and waste as outlined in Chapters 6, 4, and 2 of the World Organisation for Animal Health’s Manual for Diagnostic Tests for Aquatic Animals. However, products that have been thermally treated in accordance with international health codes are exempt from this prohibition.
The Ministerial Resolution No. 217/2024 also bans the import of certain fish species from Cluj County in Romania, based on the same legal framework and veterinary recommendations. This ban applies to species listed in Chapter 3 of the Manual, with the same exemptions for thermally treated products.
Both resolutions emphasize the importance of public health and safety in relation to imported aquatic products. The competent authorities have been tasked with implementing these decisions within their jurisdictions.
These bans are effective from the day following their publication in the Official Gazette.
