MUSCAT: The global coronavirus pandemic has been devastating for the aviation sector across the globe.
Airports have been shut, thousands of flights grounded and businesses have ceased operations. Oman Air is no exception.
Speaking about the national airline, Dr. Ahmed Al Futaisi, Minister of Transport said Oman Air has been “greatly affected” due to the Covid-19 crisis. “Oman Air, like other international airlines, has been greatly affected. The losses are not big, but since the beginning of the crisis an emergency committee was formed to reduce losses,” he said.

“We have been able, thankfully, to reduce the operational costs for 2020 by more than 43% of the approved budget, which has helped us in reducing the losses. The number of Oman Air hosts and hostess and pilots has been reduced,” Futaisi added.
According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), this year’s loss of revenue has cost airlines more than $300bn due to pandemic.
