Muscat – The General Secretariat of the Tender Board has recently awarded the market project at a cost of more than RO 9.7 million.
According to H.E. Mahmoud bin Yahya Al Dhahli, Governor of North Al Sharqiyah, the market is expected to meet local and regional needs, support competitiveness, and promote economic growth.
He emphasised that the market will serve as a central hub for livestock, food products, and agricultural goods, contributing to the development of productive agriculture and activating traditional markets in the Wilayat.
The Souq is strategically located in the industrial area of Sinaw, offering easy access to various regions of the Sultanate. It will encompass a wide range of facilities, including a central market, administrative building, livestock pens, slaughterhouse, fodder shops, poultry market, meat shops, veterinary clinic, auction yard, ice factory, mosque, restaurants, cafes, parking lots, and more.
Eng. Nasser bin Khamis Al Hassani, Director General of North Al Sharqiyah Municipality, explained that the idea of the resource market project came from statistics which indicate the presence of a number of animal pens spread randomly in the wilayat, with livestock sold amounting to 10,000 heads per month. He pointed out that these numbers show the increasing demand for live animals and the keenness of community members to shop from the Wilayat of Sinaw, which has become a destination with multiple interests.
He further highlighted the market’s potential to create direct job opportunities for citizens and support local entrepreneurs. With an estimated annual financial return of over RO 340,000, the market is expected to contribute significantly to the local economy.
The Souq project aligns with Oman Vision 2040 by promoting economic activity, maximizing local industries, strengthening food security, and developing livestock and agricultural wealth. It is a testament to the government’s commitment to enhancing the economic prosperity of North Al Sharqiyah Governorate.
