SPAIN: The Spanish maestro confirmed the news on Monday, October 7, after hinting at the decision last week with a cryptic message, “COMING SOON 8/10/24,” referencing the two jersey numbers he famously wore during his 18-year tenure at Barcelona.

With 674 appearances for the Catalan club, Iniesta became synonymous with success, helping Barcelona clinch an incredible 32 major titles, including four Champions League trophies, nine La Liga titles, and six Copa del Rey triumphs. The midfield magician’s vision and finesse translated into 57 goals and 135 assists for his beloved Blaugrana.

Iniesta’s international career was no less spectacular. He etched his name in history by scoring the decisive extra-time goal in the 2010 FIFA World Cup Final, delivering Spain their first-ever World Cup title. The midfield maestro also played a key role in Spain’s 2012 UEFA European Championship win, cementing his status as a pillar of La Roja’s golden generation.

Since leaving Barcelona in 2018, Iniesta enjoyed stints at Japan’s Vissel Kobe and the UAE’s Emirates Club, but now, at 40, he hints that his future could lie in coaching.
