Muscat: Over the past few years, Sohar Port and Freezone has undergone remarkable transformations, positioning itself as a national model for construction, development, and innovation.

In the first half of 2024 alone, the port and free zone secured RO 1.3 billion (USD 3.4 billion) in investments.

As part of its second phase of development, significant infrastructure improvements have led to the availability of 345 hectares of leasable land, aligning with the growing demand for industrial and commercial spaces.

Eng. Abdullah bin Khalfan Al Jabri, Chairman of Sohar Port and Freezone, highlighted the institution’s impact, stating, “Sohar Port and Freezone is an active institution in the daily lives of people across the Sultanate of Oman, with goods reaching every home through our facilities. Over the past two decades, our commitment to excellence has been driven by our strategic importance as a global logistics hub.”

The celebration of two decades of achievements underscored the company’s dedication to developing operations and forging strong partnerships to ensure the supply of essential commodities, thereby supporting the growth of local industries and the national economy.

Emil Hochstede, CEO of Sohar Port, emphasized the significance of strategic partnerships, particularly with ASYAD Group and the Port of Rotterdam, in establishing Sohar Port as a world-class facility. He noted the collaboration with United Solar Holdings to create the region’s first polysilicon plant as a pioneering initiative aimed at attracting transformative investments to bolster the port’s vision as an industrial cluster and manufacturing hub for green products.

Contributing over 2.1% to Oman’s GDP, Sohar Port and Freezone has also created around 36,000 direct and indirect jobs, marking it as a beacon of economic prosperity.

Sustainability is at the forefront of Sohar Port’s initiatives, with projects like the “LNG Berth,” the region’s first to supply ships with LNG generated entirely from solar energy, underscoring its commitment to environmental preservation. This initiative, developed in collaboration with the Omani OQ Group and TotalEnergies, aligns with Oman Vision 2040 and carbon neutrality goals.

The “Sohar Net Zero Alliance” further demonstrates the port’s dedication to reducing emissions and promoting renewable energy, integrating clean technologies like solar energy and exploring clean hydrogen for manufacturing, all aimed at achieving sustainability in port operations.
