MUSCAT : Eng. Ahmed bin Ali Akaak, CEO of the SEZAD, highlighted that this uptick reflects the growing interest from both local and international companies.

Among the noteworthy investments are several green industry projects, now in construction or final design stages, including the Vulcan Green Iron Factory and the Duqm Hyport Project. The ambitious Green Hydrogen Company Project (ACM Project) and a plant by Kobe Steel and Mitsui & Co. Ltd. for reduced iron are also on the horizon, reinforcing Duqm’s commitment to green industries and the Sultanate of Oman’s goal to achieve net zero by 2050.

Akaak elaborated on the zone’s ongoing collaboration with government agencies to enhance investor services. The administration has recently implemented a Cabinet decision to supervise municipal services and public facilities, fostering development across various economic sectors in Duqm.

To further support investment growth, the zone’s management prepared to offer licensing and technical services while training employees to streamline these processes. Spanning 33 square kilometers, the zone features commercial, industrial, and residential areas, including the Sai neighborhood plan.

Recent milestones include the opening of the Duqm Refinery, which boasts a production capacity of 230,000 barrels per day, significantly bolstering Oman’s refining capabilities to a total of 500,000 barrels per day. The first half of the year also saw the inauguration of Oman’s largest fishing port and new logistics facilities at Duqm Port.

The operational debut of projects like the “Samak” factory, with a capacity to produce 100 million cans of tuna annually, further underscores the zone’s dynamic growth. The ASYAD Container Terminal at Duqm Port has also begun operations, equipped with state-of-the-art technology to enhance productivity.

Akaak also mentioned that the growth in Duqm showcases the confidence investors have aided by the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones, which is dedicated to facilitating investor procedures and addressing challenges head-on.
