Omani cyclist rides to victory in Salalah Mountain Bike Race

Omani cyclist Shabib Al Balushi clinched first place in the Salalah Mountain Bike Race, held as part of the fourth edition of the Salalah Tour.

Muscat: Organized by Dhofar Municipality in collaboration with the Oman Cycling Federation and the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth, the event brought together top cycling talent from Oman and abroad.

Al Balushi’s triumph in the general category was the highlight of the race, with fellow Omani riders Shahab Al Qamshoui and Hilal Al Shahoumi taking second and third places, respectively. In the youth category under 23 years old, Mundhir Al-Hasani secured first place, followed by Yahya Al-Qasimi and Kuwaiti cyclist Mohammed Hassan.

In the women’s category, the Philippines’ Mary Grace took the top spot, with Britain’s Emma Fonton finishing second and Oman’s Amira Al Obaidani rounding off the podium in third place. The 40 years and above category saw British cyclist Tim Fontaine come out on top, while Oman’s Labib Al Lawati and Mansour Al Mahrouqi finished second and third.

The 18-kilometre race, consisting of three 6-kilometre laps, witnessed widespread participation from local and international cyclists. During the closing ceremony, Khalifa bin Khamis Al Jabri, vice president of the Oman Cycling Federation, honored winners and contributors to the race’s success.
