MUSCAT : The meeting was held between H.E. Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, and H.E. Douglas Alexander, Minister of State for Trade Policy and Economic Security in the United Kingdom, via video conference.

During the meeting, the two ministers discussed indicators of inter-trade growth and ways to enhance it and increase trade exchange and investments. Emphasis was placed on moving forward with negotiations on a free trade agreement between the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and the United Kingdom, as well as a number of topics of common interest.

H.E. Al Yousef stressed that the United Kingdom is a major strategic partner for the Sultanate of Oman, especially since the economic relations between the two friendly countries are witnessing remarkable growth. This will help achieve common aspirations and enhance aspects of bilateral cooperation with the United Kingdom in all fields, he noted.

The two sides also discussed ways to enhance joint investment cooperation between Oman and UK so as to encourage direct investment in available investment sectors and activities in accordance with the laws and regulations in force in both countries.
