MUSCAT : The Green Aluminium Circular Project, led by Al Yaqeen bint Amer Al Suwati, is turning Oman’s palm waste into a valuable resource. This innovative initiative, known as “Greenlium,” is one of the standout projects from the Upgrade Program for Transforming Projects into Startups under the Technology Track, overseen by the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation.

The Greenlium project aims to convert traditional commercial aluminium into organic aluminium using lignin, a natural polymer extracted from palm trees, through advanced AI-driven techniques. The process begins with collecting and cleaning agricultural waste, which is then processed to extract lignin. This lignin is applied to commercial aluminium, transforming it into a more sustainable, recyclable, and environmentally friendly material.

Al Suwati emphasizes that Greenlium not only reduces the environmental impact of aluminium production but also addresses the issue of agricultural waste by converting it into value-added products. This organic aluminium, celebrated for its flexibility and durability, finds applications in drug packaging, electronics, and various other industries, all while helping to shrink the carbon footprint.

Greenlium promises to build a more sustainable circular economy, aligning with global environmental protection and resource preservation goals. The project team is committed to expanding Greenlium’s impact through increased recycling facilities, technological innovation, and the promotion of sustainable practices on a global scale.
