Muscat – This ambitious project, led by the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology (MTCIT) in collaboration with Dhofar Municipality, Asyad Group, Mwasalat, and various private sector partners, showcases a significant commitment to environmental stewardship and innovation.

The convoy, consisting of 12 electric vehicles, is set to traverse an impressive 1,000 kilometers, journeying through Al Dakhiliyah and Al Wusta Governorates before reaching its final destination in Dhofar Governorate. This initiative not only marks a milestone in Oman’s efforts to embrace electric mobility but also serves to enhance public awareness of the benefits of electric cars.

In addition to the convoy, Dhofar Governorate will host an electric car exhibition from August 27-30. This exhibition aims to further promote eco-friendly transportation and support the Sultanate’s vision of reducing carbon emissions and advancing sustainable development.

According to H.E. Eng. Said bin Hamoud al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, plans are on to increasing the adoption of electric cars and trucks across the governorates, with the goal of installing between 400 and 500 electric vehicle chargers over the next two years. The Ministry is also exploring the development of other environmentally friendly transportation options, including biofuel-powered vehicles.

The plan includes broadening the network of charger suppliers to make electric vehicles more accessible to all segments of society. It also encompasses infrastructural improvements, such as establishing dedicated parking and charging facilities, developing appropriate pricing structures, and implementing regulations tailored to electric vehicles.
