MUSCAT : According to recent estimates, approximately 19 percent of diabetic patients may experience this complication.

Diabetic retinopathy occurs when high blood sugar levels damage the blood vessels in the retina, the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye. Over time, this damage can lead to vision loss and even blindness.

To prevent the progression of diabetic retinopathy, it is crucial for individuals with diabetes to undergo regular eye examinations, noted the ministry circular. Early detection and treatment can significantly reduce the risk of vision problems.
