Muscat – In response to public inquiries about the phasing out of 3G networks in the country, the TRA has issued a statement to answer some of the common queries.

Q: What measures will be implemented for areas affected by the discontinuation of 3G services?
A: Before the services are fully discontinued, the third-generation stations will be upgraded to support at least fourth-generation (4G) services.

Q: Why has the discontinuation of 3G services been prioritized over second-generation (2G) services?
A: The frequencies allocated to 3G networks are more suitable for reuse in fourth and fifth-generation (4G and 5G) networks. This makes the transition more efficient and supports the advancement of newer technologies. Additionally, the coverage area of the second-generation network remains broader in some regions compared to 3G.
