MUSCAT: Oman on Tuesday imposed a temporary visa ban on hiring expatriate workers in specific professions for a period of six months, starting from September 1, 2024.
The Ministry of Labour has issued a decision (452/2024), suspending work permits in 13 professions.

Among the 13 professions suspended include construction worker (general), cleaning worker (general building), loading and unloading worker, bricklayer, steel fixer, tailor (women’s clothing and general), tailor (men’s clothing and general), electrician (general electrical installations), waiter, painter, chef (general), electrician (home installations) and barber.
The move is part of a broader drive to prioritize job opportunities for Omani nationals and curtail Labour Law violations, with the Royal Oman Police (ROP) and judicial officers continuing to intensify their efforts.
The Sultanate is cracking down on Labour Law violations, with authorities arresting nearly 12,000 illegal workers, and deporting 9,700 in recent months.
