Muscat – The total number of postpaid subscriptions reached 1,888,274, up from the previous year.
In contrast, prepaid mobile phone subscriptions saw a decline of 4.5 percent, bringing the total to 5,054,177. Of these, 3,818,880 were from operators, while 1,235,297 came from resellers.
Overall, the total number of mobile phone subscriptions, combining both postpaid and prepaid, decreased by 1.1 period in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, totaling 6,942,451 subscriptions.
The number of active mobile broadband internet subscriptions reached 5,841,100 by the end of June 2024, while fixed internet subscriptions increased by 6.5 percent to reach 577,252, compared to the same period in 2023.
The total number of fixed broadband subscriptions (more than 256 kilobytes/second) reached 575,549 by the end of June 2024, an increase of 6.5 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. The number of subscriptions via low-speed Internet (less than 256 kilobytes/second), which includes telephone calls and some leased Internet lines, reached 1,703 subscriptions.
Statistics indicated a decrease of 21.7 percent in the number of fixed-line subscriptions by the end of June 2024, to reach 441,196 subscriptions, compared to the end of June 2023. As for analogue fixed-line subscriptions, which include prepaid and postpaid, the number decreased by 71.1 percent to reach 66,503 subscriptions compared to the same period in 2023. The number of fixed-line subscriptions connected to Internet Protocol (IP) technology reached 317,912 during the same period, recording an increase of 15.6 percent compared to the end of June 2023.
Statistics showed that the number of subscriptions to the digital network channels for integrated services decreased by 1.7 percent to reach 49,389 subscriptions, while the number of public telephones stabilized at 6,801 and the number of fixed wireless subscriptions decreased by 20.7 percent to reach 591 subscriptions.
Muscat Governorate ranked first in the number of fixed analogue telephone lines, with a percentage of 47.47 by the end of June 2024, followed by North Al Batinah Governorate in second place with a percentage of 10.57, while Dhofar Governorate recorded a percentage of 10.4. The percentage of lines in the remaining governorates reached 31.56.
