MUSCAT: M.A. Sriiyukthaa, a fourth grade student at Indian School Bousher in Oman, represented India in the “World Schools Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship” for the Under 9 (girls) category held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from August 1-8, 2024.
Sriiyukthaa won the gold medal (in the Rapid Chess Tournament with 7.5 out of 9 points and won a bronze medal in Blitz Chess Championship.
This international event, coordinated by the International Chess Federation (FIDE) and the Uzbekistan Chess Federation, had over 250 participants from more than 18 countries.
Admission to this tournament is based solely on each country’s national chess federation. As a result, a restricted number of national players from various countries fought against one another in separate age groups for boys and girls.
