MUSCAT : This initiative, set to commence in September in Muscat, is being held in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).

Building on the success of its inaugural edition in 2023, which saw 75 young men and women trained in leadership and diplomatic skills, the project aims to further enhance Omani youth’s presence in regional and international forums. The first edition achieved its goal of familiarizing participants with the principles of the United Nations and its councils, fostering a greater connection between youth and international organizations.

The Youth Ambassadors programme is a key development initiative under the Tenth Five-Year Plan, designed to boost youth participation and skill development. This year’s edition will expand its scope to include 100 participants, with 21 seats allocated for representatives from Gulf and Arab countries, many of whom have already given initial approval to join.

Hilal bin Saif Al Siyabi, Director General of the Directorate General of Youth, detailed that the project will feature a range of activities including meetings with diplomatic leaders, training sessions conducted by UNITAR, a simulation of the Model United Nations, and opportunities for regional and international participation.

Al Siyabi emphasized that the primary objective of the project is to cultivate young national leaders who can effectively represent the Omani identity on the global stage. Participants will gain essential knowledge for external representation and contribute to discussions on various international issues. The programme is also geared towards equipping young people with the expertise needed to address contemporary global challenges through the United Nations Model.
