Omanisation of refrigerated truck driver jobs to take effect from September 1

The Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology is set to enforce 100 percent Omanization of refrigerated truck driver jobs, with strict penalties for violators, starting September 1.

MUSCAT : The Ministry has issued a formal notice outlining the new policy, which also cautions refrigerated truck owners of legal consequences in the event of any violations.

The notice reads as follows: “In implementation of the Land Transport Law issued by Royal Decree (10/2016) and its executive regulations, and the Ministerial Decision No. 235/2022) issued by the Ministry of Labour regarding 100% Omanization of the profession of refrigerated truck driver, the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology draws the attention of all refrigerated truck owners of all sizes and shapes that the ministry will start, as of Sunday, September 1, 2024, to enforce legal actions against those who violate Omanization (100%) decision of the ‘refrigerated truck driver’ profession. Please note that the procedures will apply against violators wherever the violation occurs, including those that occur inside warehouses, parking lots, or markets, taking into account the necessary procedures regarding closed areas, private properties, and similar locations. The ministry calls upon all beneficiaries of direct or indirect services from these refrigerated trucks to cooperate with it and report any violations in this regard.”
